Athens, Ga. —The J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development seeks qualified applications for three, full-time, non-tenure track public service faculty positions. These faculty positions will each have a focus on one of the following subject matters:

November 11, 2013

During three intensive half-day sessions in June and July, faculty from UGA’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development and local leaders in Perry, Ga., explored innovative approaches to leadership development for the greater Perry area.

October 25, 2013

More than 100 community leaders in Gainesville, Ga., explored issues related to the impact of diversity on Hall County’s existing and future workforce at a breakfast forum on October 22. The Vision 2030 Diversity Committee with the University of Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development hosted the event.

The Atlanta Regional Commission — a nonprofit organization — was created to coordinate regional planning in the 10-county, 70-city, 4.2-million-population metro area. For the past three years, UGA’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development has facilitated the ARC’s Leadership Academy.

Maritza Soto Keen and David Hooker — both on the faculty at the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development — presented a workshop on at the second annual State of Public Health Conference on October 3 in Athens, Ga.

For some groups, leadership training at the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development includes a low ropes course. But what if Fanning partnered with Outdoor Recreation at UGA? What else could be offered?

Grady County citizens kicked off an eight-month-long leadership-training program in October, facilitated by the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development. The 2014 class of Leadership Grady will learn skills that will help them take on roles in their community.

Each month the 15-member class will explore topics such as how to lead group decision-making, how to build collaborations, and how to deal with diversity issues. Leadership Grady will develop and implement a project to benefit local youth during the training period.

For the sixth year, faculty from the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development facilitated a leadership workshop for the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education’s Policy Fellowship Program.

Dawson County — up in the north Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains — is home to Amicalola Falls State Park. So a five-mile trek to Amicalola’s Len Foote Hike Inn seemed like a perfect way to kick-off the county’s community leadership program on September 14.
